Our first day in Brazil was a long one for most people who were tired from the red eye flight the night before, but ended on a great note. At 7:30 we were picked up by two vans to go to Bovinu's, a traditional Brazilian steakhouse. The experience begins with grabbing a plate and filling it with appetizers, but also being warned to save some room on the plate for the main course which was several cuts of steak and chicken that were carved right onto the plate. Most people filled their plate quickly only to have another round of food come shortly after. Everything was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and delicious. It was hard to say no, so the meats kept stacking higher.
At one point, chicken hearts were brought around and since you only live once, many people tried it, including myself. Local frat star, Phil Klafta, said the chicken hearts "were surprisingly tender, full of flavor," but it "broke his heart to do it." Soon after the chicken hearts, an adventurous group decided to try the local alcoholic sensation known as Caipirinha. The drink is made with caipirinha, sugar, and lemons, but Bonivu's offered a passionfruit twist and soon after taking a sip, Abe Hong said "Tonight's gonna be a rough night." Well said, Abe. The drink is delicious and sweet, but fairly strong, so make sure to keep count.
The dinner wrapped up as everyone was full and then got dessert anyway. Smit, the vegetarian was quoted saying, "It was good." Could not have said it better myself.
