Discovering Empiricus

We started our fourth day in São Paulo with a visit to Empiricus - a Brazilian company specialized in publishing financial contents and investment ideas. The company offers publications of different contents on investments, ranging from stocks, fixed income, real estate funds, investment funds, to crypto-coins.

Empiricus was founded in 2009, by 3 highly-motivated individuals. One of the founders used to work as an analyst on the sell side of the financial industry. However, when they realised most financial researches done by the banks are written in favour of the banks, they decided to start their own independent financial reporting business in Brazil to advocate the democracy of financial information. With the mindset of “nothing to lose and everything to gain”, they quitted their former jobs and began to write reports and send them to thousands of emails they gathered. Soon, things spread and their customer base expanded. Although the company was established during the worst time of the Brazil economy, they managed to survive and thrive until today.

By delivering their content in the simplest way, they help ordinary people to multiply their incomes and achieve financial independence. In November 2017, the number of subscribers of the company reached 180,000, an increase of six times since 2014, and had a turnover of 154 million reais.

Early this year, Empiricus partnered with the financial information company Quantum to create a search engine and fund comparator. Currently, their R&D is focusing on developing a mobile app to present their contents. This app will allow the users to download, highlight and save the reports for later.

After engaging with the staffs of Empiricus, some of our classmates were inspired by the values of the company and show interest in getting an internship with Empiricus.
