The Symbol of Rio de Janeiro - Christ the Redeemer

What's the MOST FAMOUS symbol of Rio?!

Not Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. Not Copacabana Beach. Not Ipanema.

Here is the answer:

Christ the Redeemer! (Trust Google, Trust Big Jesus)

Located on the top of Corcovado Mountain, Christ the Redeemer (Statue) has become a symbol of not only Rio but also Brazil.

After a great talk and dance with community leaders, we went to Christ Statue around 4 p.m., May 26th, 2018. Transferring by cable cars, we almost arrived at the feet of Christ Statue. To get a real touch on Christ, we could either take an elevator or climb another 230 steps of stairs. Amazingly!

With great efforts, we made it! Let's enjoy the top of the mountain and respect of Jesus!

With the various views under the sunset, we could also detect the different feelings of Christ Statue and the whole Rio!

To dig out the history of Christ the Redeemer, I found out several data from Wikipedia:

It was created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by the Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with the French engineer Albert Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face. Constructed between 1922 and 1931, the statue is 30 meters (98 ft) tall, excluding its 8-meter (26 ft) pedestal. The arms stretch 28 meters (92 ft) wide.
The statue weighs 635 metric tons (625 long, 700 short tons), and is located at the peak of the 700-meter (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. A symbol of Christianity across the world, the statue has also become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil, and is listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone.

Time flies and we were heading to the farewell dinner then! Please keep an eye on our next blog!
